Hello Everyone,
I'm due to start on humira in the next 2 weeks. Could anyone out there tell me what to expect regarding side effects please? I feel a bit apprehensive about injecting but guess I will get used to this. On another note, I read recently that active RA can increase the risk of developing lymphoma, cancer of the lymph glands - has anyone else come across this? It seems a bit cruel that on top of this awful disease, we have to cope with the risk of cancer too? Thank you all, Allison x

Hi Allison, I don't recall any side effects when I went on to Humira. I did notice my appetite was reduced which helped me to lose a few kilograms that needed shifting anyway so it was a bonus rather than an unpleasant side effect I'm really hoping this is the drug for you and will give you good health ... it's certainly been a god-send to a lot of people. Hi Alison! I've been on Humira 3 months now and it has made a huge difference to my life, despite a few problems. I tend to be a bit snuffly and have a few mild headaches, but nothing serious at all. I have had some blistering and itching at the injection site, but only once or twice. I can be a bit achey the day of and after the injection so I try and not do too much on those days. I've been lucky so far, because other than that I haven't had any side effects. I still steel myself to give the injection and have to read the insructions - even though I know it off by heart! Don't know why because it is fine! Just be aware of the kickback the first time and hold the pen nice and firm - I didn't!!! If we have RA there are a few things we are more prone too like heart disease as well - yes it sucks! I do hope you get on all right and it helps quickly.

HI Alison,
I have been on humira for 12 months now and have had no side effects. You will soon get used to doing the injections. I think it's the drugs we take that increase our risk of lymphoma, not the RA. It is rare, and we just have to be extra vigilant for anything out of the ordinary. Good luck with the humira. Love, Doreen xx

Thank you all for your good wishes and advice. Could you tell me how long after the injection did any of you feel improvements? Also, does it get rid of swelling in the joints too? Thank you!....... Allison x

Hi Alison,
It varies a lot how long it takes for people to notice any improvements. With me it was 8 weeks, I suddenly realised my hands were less swollen and I could make a fist (so that answers your second question about swelling!) Some people feel an improvement after the first dose but we all react differently to the drugs so there is no set pattern.

Hi Alison, I`ve been on humira for almost three years now, and luckily, have had no side effects. It seemed to begin to work quite quickly for me - probably in about 6 weeks I first began to feel some improvement. The first thing I noticed was a real lessening of early morning stiffness. My fingers became much less swollen - so much so my wedding ring slipped off in the bathroom one day. Previously I`d had to have it cut off my finger and resized. It didn`t make any difference to joints already damaged, but it has made a considerable difference to my mobility. Good luck with it - I hope it works for you. Kathleen x

Hi Alison,
I have started on Humira recently - taken three doses to date. I have not experienced any side effects, not even site reaction. Can recommend it, but of course we all react differently to these drugs.
Hope it is the one for you.
Nina
